Critical
Words carry more meaning with them than originally intended. Permaculture for example carries the heavy load of "hippy" or "green" with it. Design has become styling and reduced to "nice". Design is for me a process and the first question I ask myself and others is: why, why do we need this?
Practical
My focus will be on the practical and I do try to avoid philosophies or theories. My motivation for this is two fold. There are people much better informed and I lack the time. Furthermore (third reason), my aim at this site is more to help others to find practical day to day examples which can instantly can be used at home.
Energy and Food
Permaculture is a viable solution for many of the food and energy needs we have. Even in a climate as Finland where the temperature in wintertimes can easily drop below minus 20 degrees Celsius, summer temperature above 30 degrees Celsius. One of the challenges is to take advantage of the short but intense growing season.
Regional Solutions
I focus on local and regional and national development. The share and trade food and energy resources and the use Information and Communication Technology to facilitate this. Also I work on smaller tools or modifications of existing tools to improve gardening, water harvesting and storage, energy collecting and storage, food preservation like drying or cooling.
